The Route

A purpose

Every journey

Every journey Dr. Roque has undertaken has carried deep meaning for the lives he has touched with his own hands. The earthquake in Manabí, Ecuador, was a disaster that shook not only the nation but the entire world — a 7.8 magnitude quake that claimed 700 lives and left more than 6,000 people homeless. In the midst of this tragedy, Dr. Roque played a vital role by providing clean water and essential first aid supplies to the elderly, infants, and even animals affected by the catastrophe.

Panama also faced a humanitarian challenge when hundreds of Cuban migrants were stranded, unable to continue their journey toward the United States. Dr. Roque responded by renting hotels to ensure his fellow countrymen had a safe place to sleep.

In Costa Rica, a crisis emerged when more than 500 passports belonging to Cuban refugees were confiscated by immigration authorities against their will. This situation triggered national concern, prompting Dr. Roque to intervene. His efforts led to the release of the passports, restoring peace of mind to the refugees. The President of Costa Rica personally assured Dr. Roque that he would help facilitate the departure process for the stranded Cubans.

By the end of 2016, Dr. Roque had not only sent containers of water and supplies to Ecuador but had also extended economic and humanitarian assistance across five different countries, leaving a legacy of compassion and solidarity wherever he went.
